India itself is considered a sub-continent. India is part of the Indo-australian Plate.Tens of millions of years ago it rifted apart from Africa and eventually collided with Asia. The size of continents are subjective, with Greenland too small to be a continent while Australia, Antarctica and Europe are large enough to be continents (even though Europe has a massive land connection to Asia).
