I was wondering how the battles of Anzio, Monte Cassino, and Ortona were related. I know they all take place around the same area but not much more than that. Can someone help or give me a sight with this info on it?

The battles themselves were markedly different. Anzio was an amphibious assault and beach landing operation. Monte Cassino was more of a siege of a mountaintop fortification. The siege of Monte Cassino resulted in intense airborne bombardment of the abbey on the mountaintop which German forces were defending. The airborne bombardment did little to neutralize the German defenders. Ortona was an urban battle which resulted in street-fighting tactics which are still studied today. Ortona was fought primarily by Canadian troops against Germans.

The allies were halted by fierce german resistance- centered at Monte Cassino. Several assaults were mounted and failed- by US, British, French, Ghurkas. Finally the Polish moutain division was sent there and, after a long and fierce battle, punched through.
The Anzio landing was designed as a way to by pass the german defence line- the landing was behind the Monte Cassino line. For a while the Germans managed to contain the beachhead, but this stretched their resources. Once Monte Cassino fell they had to abandon that defence line too, and retreated to new positions to the north of Rome
