let's say you're a moderate democrat, and your friend became a born again intelligent-design ravenous republican neo-con shouting "halleluiah" at your parents all the time?

Or you're just a normal Bible belter and your friend embraced loony left socialism and started protesting to save some psycho on death row?

or whatever... would you ditch a friend because you disliked their politics?

No I would not ditch a friend based on his political stance that is a stupid reason to not be a friend and it would seem that he needs you more now than ever or you need him

Depends. If their views got in the way of the friendship and the differences could not be overcome, then yes I would ditch the friend. But if the friend knew the differences between yourself and them, and they didn't try to force their opinion onto you all the time and they knew where to draw the line in a politically conversation, no matter how extreme their views may be, the friendship could be salvageable.

Don't ditch a good friend because they are on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to politics.

Friendship has a lot more to do with being connected. with others. If you limit yourself to people who think just like yourself, then you're not likely to understand most others.

I'd like to have more wacko political extremists in my life, both conservative and progressive. It makes for interesting conversations... and on occasion I even learn a thing or two.

Maybe ... maybe not. I kinda like my crazy lib friends.

It really depends on why you were friends in the first place. Perhaps you could learn something from each other ... or, perhaps, it is time to move on. Though, most of the time, it is pretty rare for someone to undergo a radical transformation in a short period of time without some definite reason. If you're really friends, you'd learn why first before ditching them.

No! Just as opposing views and opinions make a nation stronger, the same goes for a friendship. I couldn't imagine being friends with only people who think the way I do. I mean, how many perfect people are actually out there? Good question.

No... Just accept that their views are different and basically agree to disagree. I'm not saying you should go marry them or whatever but does it really matter when your going to see a movie who you're voting for in the next election? As long as they're not forcing their ideas on you, all is good =D!

depends on how greatly their political views and my own clashing caused it to be unpleasent in each other's company. I often have a great time debating with mates who have different ideas and opinons, but it's only when one of the sides becomes angry and defensive that it stops being fun. If the friend was one who became to dogmatic in his views would I stop spending time with them.

This country is divided on many issues, enough to cause another civil war.
My answer is to stay friends with someone who disagrees with you on all the issues.
There are right and wrong answers to everything, and if there isn't an answer to be found then except them for who they are-dumb, smart, jerk, nerd,beautiful-whatever.

Well I wouldnt cut someone off for politics and thats because you never know who you'll need to come to your aid. Lets play it smart huh. However, I would be the one to cut someone off for a funny haircut, or if they have a wierd way of eating their food, or snoring, or if I "just dont like them".
