I have a small creek running through my land that is dry part of the year. I would like to make a reservoir on it.

Check with your local department of conservation. Some soils are better than others. We tried damming our creek twice, but both times, the current was too strong and the soil not right for success. Good luck.

I used a few wooden stakes and a piece of old plywood. Blocked the flow and then dug a deeper hole that would maintain water. Drove the stakes into the sides and middle of the creek, placed the plywood up against it on the water side and nailed it there. You need to decide how far up you want the water to get before it goes over the dam or install a pipe with a valve to allow/stop water flow through the plywood.
