1st ring: lets that person know someone is calling
2nd ring: gives them time to get up (assuming the phone is some distance from them)
3rd ring: that person should have reached the phone by now
If by the 3rd ring no one has answered I'm hanging up.

Depending on how confident i feel, if im not so sure about calling them in the first place, only like 3 times, but in general i let it ring until voicemail comes. You know, only waiting 4 times, isnt really giving them a chance! I generally am not able to reach my phone in time before 4 rings.

You will never be answered at our house. It takes us 4 rings just to find the phone. The phone operators are instructed to allow 10 rings.

About 4 rings. In most cases if they can make it to the phone, they will.
