alarmed? more like f***ing angry. If students in Britain went outside the Iranian embassy, trying to force hteir way in and rip down the flag, shouting 'death to Iran' there would be nuclear bombs pointing at us right now...they do it to us, but if any one in the West did it to them, it would be totally unnaceptable. Why are they so special?
Why are Iranian people so convinced British navy personel invaded their waters - they didn't, and there is proof to prove it. Obviously the news in Iran has been rather biased in its reporting, if it's giving people the impression they seem to have.
And as for those confessions - they were looking to the interviewer for prompts, and those letters are full of mistakes. Also, the way the woman sailor reffered to her ship is totally out of charachter with what she would normally have said. They are trained to just do as they are told, to show that it is not a real confession. She obviously just copied a badly translated letter.
Frankly, if the Iranians continue to act in this way, people will think they want a war, and that would have bad consequences for them. The government is selfish and undemocratic, the people are brain-washed, and society as a whole is totally middle aged. They say we still think we are an imperial empire who thinks they can do what they want, but they are sexist, pro-racism towards many western religions, and totally out dated. No wonder it is so hard talking diplomatically with them.

Yep - but it is just brinkmanship. We will do a little dance with them and they will do a little dance with us and then we will all find a way to sort it so that no-one loses face.
Even though our lads probably WERE in safe water, Iran will have seen it as an opportunity to lay down some playground rules with a big power - the UK.
I personally do not think that this will amount to much. There may be some sort of 'nominal trial' but this will depend upon how Beckett handles the situation.
Saying that, if she handles this like she has handled the farm payments then these lads are doomed. How did she keep her job??
From a more selfish point of view, we have three million pounds worth of goods to be shipped to Iran just sitting on the warehouse floor...so yeah...sort it!

No point in beiing unduly alarmed unless you want to have a nervous breakdown. From the start of the Cold War to all the problems in the Middle East, now imported to Britain, we have lived with this for many years. We just have to put it to the back of our minds and not panic. Most of these international crises (think Bay of Pigs) blow over. That is why we have a nuclear deterrent.

A classic war strategy - repeated often throughout history - is this: If you have two enemies, do everything you can to help them fight each other and then take over both. The U.S. of A. has been on this trajectory with Iraq and Iran for three decades or so. Relax. Everything is going according to plan.

Alarming, yes.
This could go on for a while, unless the sailors are hurt or killed. Then, the situation will go bad fast.

No its just another typical day in the Mideast. No one has been hurt yet so that's a good sign. If Iran wanted to be a-holes about it they woulda killed them when they were captured
