2x - 5y = - 1- - - - - - Equation 1
2x - y = 1- - - - - - - - Equation 2
- - - - - - - -
Multiply equation 1 by - 1
2x - 5y = - 1
- 1(2x) - (- 1)(5y) = - 1(- 1)
- 2x - (- 5y) = - (- 1
- 2x + 5y = 1
- - - - - - - - - - -
- 2x + 5y = 1
2x - y = 1
- - - - - - - -
4y = 2
4y / 4 = 2 / 4
y = 2 / 4
y = 1 / 2
Inerrt the y value into equation 1
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
2x - 5y = - 1
2x - 5(1/2) = - 1
2x - 5/2 = - 1
2x - 5/2 + 5/2 = - 1 + 5/2
2x = - 1 + 5/2
2x = - 2/2 + 5/2
2x = 3/2
2x / 2 = 3/2 ÷ 2
x = 3/2 ÷ 2/1
x = 3/2 x 1/2
x = 3 / 4
Insert the x value into equation 1
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Check for equation 1
2x - 5y = - 1
2(3/4) - 5(1/2) = - 1
6/4 - 5/2 = - 1
6/4 - 10/4 = - 1
- 4/4 = - 1
- 1 = - 1
- - - - - - - -
Check for equation 2
2x - y = 1
2(3/4) - 1/2 = 1
6/4 - 1/2 = 1
6/4 - 2/4 = 1
4/4 = 1
1 = 1
- - - - - - - -
Both equations balance
The solution set { 3/4, 1/2 }

2x-5y=-1
2x-y=1
Multiply the second equation by -1:
2x-5y=-1
-2x+y=-1
=======
-4y=-2
y=1/2
2x-5(1/2)=-1
2x-5/2=-2/2
2x=3/2
x=3/4
The solution set is (3/4,1/2)
Check:
2(3/4)-5(1/2)=-1
3/2-5/2=-1
-2/2=-1
-1=-1
2(3/4)-1/2=1
3/2-1/2=1
2/2=1
1=1
I hope this helps!

2x-5y=-1
2x-y=1
u subtract those 2 equations and u get
2x-2x cancel out
-5y-(-y)=-4y
and -1-1=-2
so -4y=-2
y=-2/-4= -0.5
then substitute with one of the equations (i chose second)
2x-(o.5)=1
2x=1.5
x=1.5/2
x=o.75

multiply the first equation with -1
you'll get
-2x+5y=1
2x-y=1
4y=1
y=1/4
now you substitute y in the first eq
2x-5/4=-1
2x=-1+5/4
2x=-4+5
2x=1
x=1/2

Do your own homework!
Take the second equation and rearrange it so it's y = whatever, then plug that value for y into the first equation and solve for x.
