Who’s more obscure, Earl Webb or Owen Wilson? That’s a tossup. Wilson hit 36 triples for the Pirates in 1912, yet never had more than 14 in any other season. He was a decent OF who had the epitome of a fluke season. Nobody has ever gotten remotely close to this record, either. Three players reached 26 triples, including Shoeless Joe Jackson in that same 1912 season. In the last quarter-century, only four players have hit 20 triples during a season, though Carl Crawford (19 in 2004) could join the club soon. Today’s smaller, natural grass parks aren’t triple-friendly, so this record could stand forever.
