My baby is cross breech at the moment and has been for the last 4wks. I spoke to my midiwfe on Friday and she is now saying that it is 80% likely i will need c-section to deliver as the baby is not likely to turn at this stage. I don't mind this but i was wondering what the procedure is. They are taking me in nect week to try to turn her, How sucessful is this procedure and if you have had this done, does it hurt? They are then taking me in for c-section at 39wks (3wks away) and i also wanted to know how long will they jkeep me in hospital? Just how painful will i be after the operation??

Oh another question i forgot to ask is >>> How long do i bleed for afterwards. You know like after a vaginal delivery you bleed for up to 6wks, well will i still bleed after a caeserian and if so then for how long?

turning the baby is painful. i've never had it done but a friend of mine did. not pleasant, to say the least. with the section- you will most likely get an epidual block to numb your lower half so that you can still be awake during the birth. it isn't to bad. the surgery itself only take a little while and you'll be able to see baby right away. recovery isn't the greatest. they'll keep you about three days, depending on you and what your insurance covers. getting up and down from sitting or lying is painful for a while. you don't realize how much you use your stomach muscles until you can't. keep a firm pillow or folded blanket with you all the time. you'll need it to hold over you tummy should you sneeze or cough. after about 4 days you'll feel much better. i hope i didn't scare you. that wasn't my intention. no one told me what to expect after my section and i was really upset about it. i just wanted to inform you. best of luck with your soon to be little one.
edit- bleeding after a section is about the same as a vaginal birth but can be a little shorter.

Since you are going for a version, you are already aware that you may have a c-section that day. I don't personally know anybody who has had a version: they either birthed a breech or had a c-section.
For a c-section, you are typically in the hospital for 3-4 days (5 if there are complications for you). Everybody has different threshholds for pain, but the new pain pumps are very helpful! The trick for quick recovery is to get up walking around as soon as you can and keep walking. You really do recover quicker.
You might want to find out if the hospital has a regular tour between now and then and go on it. They usually show the surgery room as well. Familiar surroundings are less scary.

I delievered my first child via c-section because he was breech. I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. It does hurt afterwards, but they should give you pain meds for it. I hurted for like a week after i had my son. But the more u walk the better it gets. Just be sure to take the meds that the doctor gives you. I bled for like 2 1/2 to 3 weeks afterward. Hope this helps.

I had one, you stay in the hospital for 5 days. It's hard to walk at first but after a couple of weeks you will be back to normal. It does hurt but you will most likely get pain medication to help you out. I'm glad I got a c-section. I had twins and the whole thing took 20 minutes, unlike a natural birth which could take hours and hours. And another good thing is your lady parts won't get messed up from childbirth.
And my spinal block didn't even hurt that bad. It felt like a regular shot that I would get in my arm. It must be different with different people.
I had bleeding for about three weeks. You're not allowed to use tampons so buy a bunch of pads.

The part that hurts on a C-Section is the spinal block. If you chose to be asleep during the procedure this will not be needed (spinal block I mean). You can feel pressure during the procedure like pulling a tooth you feel pressure but not so much pain. You will hurt a little after the procedure and you will probably have to stay 5 days to a week in the hospital depending on your condition and stuff like that. Best wishes!

Well I would try a lot of different manuevers to get her to turn. It is possible to get a breech to turn at 36w. A c-s is major abdominal surgery that takes weeks, sometimes months, to recover from, so if you want to avoid it, let your midwife know that you do not want a c-s. Do not let her schedule a c-s. It's much better for the baby if you go into labor first, even if you end up having a c-s. I have have a breech baby vaginally at a hospital in Michigan. At any rate, I would go to www.spinningbabies.com to find some suggestions about getting her to turn. There is still time to get her to turn!

i would certainly get a second opinion. there are lots of ways to turn a breech baby. My son was transverse until 39 weeks and he turned. (unfortunately he ended up c-section anyway, but i did labor for a while, which helps the lungs functioon after birth.)
Don't let anyone push you into unecessary MAJOR surgery.
You usually stay in the hospital for 3 days and are on painkillers for a couple weeks. it is very painful to stand, or bend and sometime to walk at first.

i love how some of the people on here think they are more knowleddgeable than a medical professional, especially when they've never had a C-section.
it is not as bad as people think. it is a longer recovery time, I was in the hospital 3 days, and could climb stairs, etc when i got home. It is sore, but pain killers help. You just have to take it easy, like you do with any birth. the hardest thing was getting in and out of bed. And my scar is so small you wouldn't believe it unless I showed you!

I DONT KNOW BUT MY SISTER HAS HAD 2 c sections and now she is pregnant with her 3rd one and she is planning on having the baby that way again so she wont feel labor pains. she said its hard to walk alittle bit and you cant or should not go up stairs it could rip open the stitches.
