I don't do it to impress people, but I do display 300-500 million year old fossils I have found (yes, I realize that spells
N-E-R-D).

First, a clean home. Then, my decor. I decorate for specific purposes, and have been hired by others to do so. The decor of your home sets the environment's tone for activities in said area, yes? In my more personal space (like the bedroom) I include items that reflect a few of my personal hobbies, i.e.: My swords, my guitar, a few paintings I have done, things like that. Also, throughout the house I have things that I have picked up from other countries, and gifts from my overseas friends. There is meaning and story behind everything, so if a guest asks, there is a conversation subject. If no one displays specific interest, I spare them the applicable story. Visitors all agree that my house is a pleasant, comfortable space where they feel welcome, but are at a special occasion. Everyone's manners seem to step up a notch in my house, more like they are in a public place and want to watch their behavior. I like that.

"Not in my house, pal!"

I have a significant library of books, "Star Wars" collection and paintings. Around Christmas everyone is impressed with my Christmas tree and handmade ornaments that I collect from all over the World during last probably 25 years of my life.

Unfortunately, I notice lately that lot of people have absolutely no books in their houses except for a couple of catalogs in their bathrooms. That is impressive in a kinda bad way.

I am an antique dealer. Guests all go straight to the china cabinet to see what expensive treasures I own. The joke is I sell the good stuff and display what is worthless and damaged in my home.

The fantastic artwork of myself and my friends. Only, those are the friends who come over, so I don't know if they impress themselves or not.

Lots and lots and lots and lots of pictures of my kids, artwork my kids did, and poems I wrote about my kids. Of course, it's not really to impress anyone except myself.

I dress up my home to MY standards and surround myself with those who either appreciate my style or have enough class to keep their opinion to themselves.

I have been successful so far.
