I took a pregancy test on Friday, my period is due today and hasn't come. When I took the test, my boyfriend did it for me, and he stuck the test in his pocket. The test showed up negative, and we broke it open to see if some of the dye got held back or something, and it looked like the vertical (positive) line was there but never moved- should we count the negative or retake one?

Take another test. If the instructions say to lay it flat, that may be essential to an accurate reading.

You should retake it anyway, even if it was valid. It may have been a bit too soon. This time, use your first morning's urine and lay the thing flat, it only takes a couple of minutes but plan ahead so you don't have to leave right away.

Count it as negative. Holding a test up or down or flat, hcg will show up if you have it in your urine. Wait a few more days and test again.

i think you should do a retake and follow the directions. i also recommend getting a digital read test. since your period was due today you might want to wait until tomorrow morning to do it. good luck.
