It's pretty simple. Irregular Pentagons (and other irregular shapes for that matter) do not have equal side distances and angles. A regular Pentagon would look like a pentagon you get when you draw a five pointed star (each point equi-distant from the next). An irregular pentagon would look more like the pentagon you draw when you draw a house. I'll do my best to draw them below:
Regular:

Irregular:

___o_____o
___o_____o
If you connect those circles you should see the difference.

Irregular means "Not regular." So if a Regular shape has sides of equal length and equal interior degree angles. Then an Irregular one doesn't fit both of those definitions.
So an Irregular Pentagon either doesn't have all sides of equal length or doesn't have all interior angles of equal degrees, or both.

A regular polygon is one which all sides are equal i.e. a Square
An irregular polygon is one which the sides are unequal i.e.
retangle
