It can be put down to one of the biggest mistake on our part. We adopted Cricket, which is time-consumng and more-often-than-not droning, and missed out on the football, a great sport, which doesn't require you to waste your entire day. The actual reason might be on part of English maintianing their supercilious attitude by only promoting Cricket, it being the proverbial gentlemen's game. In comparison, football was considered a more rugged, common-man's game.

Football existed even during the British era. It was probably because we hardly give any importance to any other sport other than cricket. We have hardly any facilities for training our players and hence rarely win any matches.

Cricket eas being called 'GENTLMEN'S GAME' from the beginning. That added extra popularity. Moreover, British people themselves liked cricket most, so became the Indian subjects. That's all.

May be coz cricket is much more interesting than soccer. (At least that's how it is for me.) I don't understand the head or tail of soccer but I love cricket- every minute of it. So it doesn't matter you didn't get soccer. You got cricket and that's good enough for me.

a 90 minute game that involves running around a soccer pitch non stop....lets think about it...the weather is either very hot or very cold...so the UK boys while there did not fancy the way the game would hold up so they focussed on the gentlemans game of cricket.
