Not looking for criticism of them, just kudos. I'm a huge fan of Zep and I personally believe they are the greatest band ever across all genres. Just curious as to what exactly other big fans of theirs love so much about them. Jimmy Pages singing on guitar? Robert Plant singing like his nuts are being squeezed? John Paul Jones smooth and erie bass lines. Or John Bonham's crazy beats on the drums. I personally love all of them and think they mesh better than anyone ever has. Anyway, that's my opinion.

I've always like how they've incorporated music from the past into their songs. For example their early albums are heavily blues influenced. The song "Stairway To Heaven" has a medieval sound to it. and "Rock and Roll" is just that, a tribute to early rock and roll. These are just a few examples, you'd probably be able to come up with more.
Listening to Led Zeppelin's body of work is to experiece rock and roll almost in its entirity.

I think what makes/made them so great is the combination of poetry in lyrics with unique musical scores. These guys were geniuses when it came to lyrics, and the compositions were so ahead of their time. It's sad that more of the artists today cannot be more unafraid to take a chance and be innovative-stand out from the other music of today.
About Robert Plants squeals, Tori Amos said it best "when I was a little girl, before I new what sex was, I used to hear Robert Plants voice and think 'that's what an orgasm sounds like'".

at least you have good taste. no one in musical history has the versatilty that they had. every one of them had mastered their instruments. they are definitely a legend
