You can almost always safely bet the remake has totally crude humor, a distinct lessening of the plot and just isn't as good as the older version.
I agree with you.

Yes, I hate movie remakes. They always kill the original. My most recent case in point is "The Wicker Man". The original was made in 1973 or 74. It's probably my favorite movie of all time, an excruciating thriller, probably the best thing Christopher Lee ever did. Nicholas Cage took it and turned it into some of the stupidest, least scary garbage I've ever seen. I didn't even finish watching it.

People remake movies because they're creatively bankrupt and don't have either the huevos or the brains to come up with something original.

There, that's my rant for the day. ;-)

Especially if it was good in the first place. The Shining for example did not need to be remade.

As I was clicking through the channels this morning I saw that "The Shining" was on so of course I went to it. It was a re-make with Rebecca DeMornay and I don't know who else. YUK...... No way to improve on Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duval.

Yes, I have been disappointed with the remakes of several of my favourite movies.

Also, I find that a book is often superior to the movie that portrays it.

Sometimes the remake is better than the original. My fave example is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original is horrible (that guy in the wheelchair is so annoying, you just want him to die already!). The remake was so much better!
