CNN reports that "students" are protesting and demanding an apology from Great Britan. My QUESTION IS: WHY are radicals and professional protesters always referred to as "students"... and is that a liberally-biased term ??

I also note that it was Iranian "Students" who stormed the US Embassy in 1979

This happens in South Korea, Europe, South America, North America. The only time I've seen REAL students was Tiananmen Square in 1989... the rest are either the unemployed, radicals, or idle-rich dope smokers rebelling against Mommy and Daddy while enjoying their trust-fund-check.

Mr. Jiggs: NICE turn of phrase there !!

Lesroys: I concur !! "Extra-credit for Fundamentalism 101" is a nice explaination. I used the dope-smoking phrase for Euro-American "students", well aware that such behavior in Iran brings you to the attention of the religious-police.

Keep it coming folks, great responses !

Sook me Wood: Iranians are PERSIAN/Aryan/Trans-Caucas... NOT Arab. I have no problem, in fact LOVE the Iranian people... so study up and don't insult out of racial ignorance.

There aren't any liberal, rich-idle dope smokers in Iran. There, they lock up liberals and execute dope smokers.

These may well be students, but likely double as protestors for extra school credits or cash. Remember that there is conscription in Iran, and that the Revolutionary Guards have 11 million serving members and a further 11 million in the reserves - i.e. almost the entire military-aged male population.

Unlike the United States, these protests are government-coordinated. Iranians have no right to congregate and protest on their own. The government controls that aspect of Iranian life, like almost all others.

As for the rest of the world, real students have always taken part in political protests. Protests have become more coordinated affairs, involving a lot more radical elements lately, but please don't knock student movements. Behind the scenes - the news you don't hear on CNN or Fox or any other Western outlet - is a reformist movement in Iran which largely consists of university students and professors.

They are students. Students of radically taught Islam. The liberal media leaves the last part out though.

CNN is so liberal its sick...the term "students" is supposed to demand some sympathy from those who hear it. These protestors are nuts. If i were the Brit diplomats...id get out now because i have a feeling hell is going to break out in that sad excuse for a country. They are instigating trouble and i think thats what they are going to get.

the 'students' are like fat al sharpton's gang of rabel rouser blacks that he imports and uses to start trouble because the locals have more sense than to do stupid crap like throw rocks and shoot off illegal fireworks.

these students rode their camels to the embassy with their suicide vests on, too bad none of them went off.
