1.) Using the substiute method: x + y = 6 y = 2x

x + y = 6
y = 2x

x + 2x = 6
3x = 6 ; x = 2.

2.) Using the addition method:
x + y = 6

x + y = 6
y = 2x

Plug in y = 2x into the first equation.

x + 2x = 6
3x = 6
x = 2

Now that we have x, we can get y, since y = 2x.
y = 2(2) = 4

x = 2, y = 4

1)x+y=6
y=2x
x+2x=6
3x=6
x=2
y=2(2)
y=4

The solution set is (2,4)

2)x+y=6,x-y=-2
x+y=6
x-y=-2
=====
2x=4
x=2

2-y=-2
-y=-4
y=4

The solution set is (2,4).
