Hydrogen is the main fuel which is getting converted into helium and in that process a small mass is converted into energy.

Majority of the fuel is hydrogen which fuse to form helium and release energy hydrogen could be detrium,trtium or our ordinary , besides this there may be fractional amount of lighter element undergoing fusion reaction.

Although no one has been there to take a sample, the best science can surmise is Hydrogen. We can detect burning Hydrogen here on Earth and see its signature using a light spectrometer. Focusing that same instrumtent on the Sun, we see evidence that Hydrogen is being burned.
