If you've purchased a new Dell with the factory software install, all the drivers should be ready to go. There should be a little black speaker next to the clock, if it isn't there, your sound drivers may not be installed. It will be on the CD they gave you. The most likely answer is that you didn't plug in the sound cable from the monitor to the back of the CPU, or you put it in the wrong spot, they are color coded. Try playing a CD, turn up the volume and check each one by one, you'll get it eventually. If that still doesn't work, your sound card is defective, call Dell for a new machine.

If it's possible, check to make sure all of your wires are properly connected and secured. After doing so, try playing an audio cd. If the sound still isn't working, call dell tech support if it's still under warranty.

On your task bar is a little megaphone. Right click and choose Open Volume Control. Make sure all volumes are up at least 3/4 and uncheck all mutes.
