Mine always went for the closet. I had a self standing wheel that would squeak like crazy that I would put out with some treats around it. Then just listen for the squeaky wheel and alas there they would be running.

Make sure you block all the exits like the small spaces under doors, so they cant run out and then put out small piles of food. If you cant catch them try to put a TINY amount of flour around the food so they leave a track to where they've been hiding. And yes, even though they're small, if they have carpets, and rodent can climb the stairs. And check under/inside of couches(yes they'll go that happened to my hammy Rosh, who is a full sized Syrian) or under fridges. If they are in the couch, DO NOT sit on it, you have to stay calm, flip the couch so they part on the floor faces you and cut a hole, small enough so the couch will not be affected but big enough that the hammy could get out and then put a bit of hammy food next to the hole.

Check under furnature, in small dark places, in drawers. you could put his favorite treat out on the floor and like sit on a bed or somthing and wait ( I have done that many times) also if the stairs are carpeted, I found that mine could climb them.
Good luck in finding him

Good luck finding them. I have lost my hamsters before too. One time i found my black dwarf hamster sleeping behind the stereo. i found him another time because he walked across the living room floor. they hide somewhere (most likely near furniture) and sleep there for the day and then wake up in the night (they are nocturnal). you will most likely be able to find them in the night when they wake up.

dont worry they like to come out a lot but if they dont come out then get a bucket, put books so it can climb into the bucket and put food and water in the bucket because that might attract it to go in the bucket

sorry to hear this... they love to hide in dark places or by/on top of the refrigerator. you could stick some of their favorite foods in various places, but you'll also attract ants and other bugs so be careful. try calling their name. but most likely they will return to their cage..
good luck!!
P.S. remember they are night animals
