The main reason why hillbillies and poor people might be racist - and certainly not all of them are, probably not even a majority - is lack of education, both formal and informal. There are plenty of people who would otherewise be considered intelligent, but who are neither hillbilly nor poor, who are racist. With them, it's just pigheaded stupidity.

I would say this is a stereotype however, it has some truth.
Usually "hillbillies" are less educated than most and poor people have less of an opportunity for education so they are simply uneducated which is the biggest cause of racism and discrimination.
But not all "hillbillies" are racist - I know a lot of more "country" folk who make educated opinions, etc.

I would not say that all hillbillies or poor people are racist. However, I would say that people who are uneducated tend to be racist. People are afraid of what they do not know. So, they tend to believe what is told to them, rather than taking the time to learn the truth for themselves.

That's totally not true. Is Al Sharpton a hillbilly or a poor person?

Lack of education and travel. These are the two major elements why people are racist. Education and travel allows people to open up their minds and accept new concepts.

That's not true. I've known and known of all sorts of racist people–some were rich, some were poor. Hate knows no financial boundaries.

well remember back in the slave days when there were rich white slave owners? well now their descendents are *sorry if i'm being mean* but they are white trash now. And they probably can't get over the fact of it and still hold a grudge for the black people being free so they aren't rich anymore. That's my two points *hint hint* lol

Racism is basicly stereotypes and you just stereotyped 2 groups i am guessing you are not one of. Figure out why you feel this way about those groups and maybe that is why they act as you think they do.

I think its wrong to limit racism to any particular set of people, i can't say anything about the 2 classes of people mentioned, but what i can say is that racism is a sign of weakness, ignorance and fear.
