Chinese ancients, "They poured a mixture of snow and saltpetre over the exteriors of containers filled with syrup, for, in the same way as salt raises the boiling-point of water, it lowers the freezing-point to below zero."[2] The Chinese put sugar in the ice and sold it as food during the summer....

It's true origin is a matter of debate, possibly the Roman Emperor Nero or Persia, way back in 62BC, where flavored ices are believed to have begun.

it was invented in Walls in the early 1900's by a guy who was looking for a product to sell in his Ice-cream van.......he SCOOPED an award for his creation...to top his creation off he stuck a flake in it

chinese invented it, made in china, and made 4,000 years ago.
an emporer's servants took fruit and frozen juice and stuck it in snow. then rome made a new version of it 2,000 years later.
