I currently have an old computer with a 400mhz Mendocino Celeron. Is it possible to upgrade it to a Coppermine Celeron or a Tualatin Celeron?

I currently can not answer this because I have not completed mine. But I can tell you that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE YOUR MOTHERBOARD in order to replace your CPU. I am looking to replace my CPU and last Friday I talked to my IT department. They said you only have to replace your motherboard if you want to go to a higher level of CPU that your current motherboard can not handle.

Celeron 400mhz (Mendocino) is available in Slot 1 and Socket 370.

If your Celeron is using Slot 1, you can not upgrade to Coppermine and Tualatin. Your possible procie upgrade path would be a Pentium lll (katmai). It goes up to 600mhz.

If your Celeron uses socket 370, it now depends on how far upgrade your motherboard can support. A BIOS upgrade (not for newbies) might help a lot.

Hope this helps.

Then, you have to buy a new case for the power supply and new video and sound cards. Just buy a new computer. They are cheap now.
