Why do you need to file a divorce?????...
If you are really thinking of Divorce, it is NOT the paper that counts. It is your own emotional thoughts that counts. It is not as if you can divorce straight away without any good reasons or evidence to back you up.
The initial stage woule be separation which most probably will take 3 years and then follow by another one or 2 years to get a divorce if the other part refuses.
In any case, don't take it lightly.
Remember....once you are married.... you no longer think for your ownself. You have to put FAMILY outfront first. Marraiges fail because one think for themselves and disregard the people surrounding them, for e.g like their children..etc..
Hope you have a deep thought before even talking about divorces...
take care

In California you can actually file on your own. All you have to do is go to the court house and ask for the packet that is for filing a divorce. If there are no assets the process will go pretty quick. Also you 2 should try to come to an agreement and be in agreement so that there is no fighting and like I said the process will go ALOT faster. That is what I did and we went to a mediation where you try to work things out and then you say that did work. Then they will give you a court date and you both agree to be divorced and the judge stamps and seals the deal. It cost me a total of $165.00.

You can get papers off the internet, fill them out yourselves, file at your county Superior Court House,, and get a divorce that way. If you have nothing in the way of an estate, it all is filled out with the null sign (a zero with a slash thru it). The filing cost is in most states about $15. If you use a mediating attorney, when he fills them out for you, and files for you both, the cost is $75-300.

I don't know what state you live in but in Illinois, I didn't have to pay for anything. Try and contact your state City Hall or Counties offices and ask where do you need to go. Depending on your income, you may not have to pay anything. Also you may want to contact a free legal aide office and they can direct you or help you file free. Good Luck.

If you agree on everything, you can do it "Pro Se"--a do-it-yourself divorce with no lawyers involved.
That's what we did, but we had already decided on who got what, and our children were grown & gone. I think the whole thing was maybe $200.00. You have to get a packet of paperwork from the courthouse.

Ask for and file an AFFADAVIT of INDIGENCY at the county clerk's office when you file your papers. It is a little-known form where you list your resources and you CAN have your filing fees waived. It's one or two pages and it's easy to complete.
It worked for me. I did not have to pay the designatd fee.

Be brave and ask her/him to file the divorce suite. If you can't do then manage your life as per his/her requirements.
