A force of 20 N is applied to a wire with an unstetched length of 2.5 cm. The wire gets 2.0 mm longer. The strain in the wire is??

Strain = Change in length / Original length and in this case we have change in length as 2 mm and the original length as 25 mm (2.5 cm). So strain is 2 /25 = 0.08 Note that strain has no units and is a dimensionless quantity.

strain=change in length/original length
=0.2/2.5=0.08
