An interesting question that raises the hypocrisy of our present position of detaining for years without any attempt at charging or trying prisoners, and at the same time accusing Iran of violating international law after they seized 15 British sailors. It seems obvious that Iran intruded into Iraqi waters in order to seize the sailors from the freighter they had boarded for inspection. While that fact makes it difficult for Britain to back down. it does appear that Iran lacks any incentive to return the Brits any time soon. America may continue to complain, but our complaints would have greater impact, were we not in a somewhat similar situation with our detainees.

Let us compare. The people we hold in Guantanamo are being help because the pose a threat to humanity from their ties to terrorism. The Brits are being held for what ??? Their supposedly entrance to Irans waters ? held without any visitation by anyone other than Iranians. We have the right and more.

Hmmm, how can an person compare un-uniformed, terrorist that are a threat to civilized people to a uniformed military person? Oh yeah, tree hugging idiot. The situations are completely different. As for POW status, that's only allowed for uniformed military, not civilian clothed terrorist. Not being charged for 5 years, hmmm, thank lawyers for that, the defense lawyers want to give non-u.s. citizens and terrorist the same constitutional protection as a U.S. Citizen, seems interesting, try going to a foreign country and pull that I'm a U.S. Citizen with constitutional rights if you get picked up by the police. In Mexico they don't feed you unless your family brings you food to prison, hmmm detainees are getting 3 culturally correct meals daily. In other countries when you're in jail you don't get medical and dental treatment, hmmm detainees are getting free medical, and dental treatment. I other countries you are put in general population and most likely be beaten and treated like someones girlfriend for a pack of smokes. Hmmm detainees are given recreation, showers, clothing, and a place to sleep, and prayer times in accordance with Muslim custom. They are also offered psychological assistance. The detainees are being treated well for foreign enemy combatants, not foreign military. Most have gained weight due to having 3 meals a day, that if in their own country would most likely be lucky to get 1 meal a day.

America or Americans?

Because I think I am allowed to. Should Bush be if he set up a very similary detainee program? I think he should be allowed to but it will be seen as hypocritical and the democrats will surely bring up this fact.

Lets see now... when exactly did these 15 Brits who were operating in waters pre-approved by the Iranians engage in armed conflict with Iranian forces or citizens?
Please remind me because I think I must have missed that...

The problem is we have detainees in Getmo. They should be prisoners of war. They don't deserve more rights than the average America citizen gets. Of course I don't agree with illegal immigrants getting all my tax dollars either.

We have the right to, but the British really didn't want us to because of that reason- all very complicated, but put it this way-

Iran caught Britian in their garden and took them off by giving them a time out and Bush is the next door neighbor trying to give advice when it's a family matter that he shouldn't get into.

make sense?

goodluck, i tryed...
