Hi. I live in NH and I want to plant some (not too big) bushes that the birds will like and will help feed them during the winter months. Any ideas?

They love highbush blueberry. They also like holly and some "weedy" things, like Virginia creeper.

Whatever you do, stay away from buckthorn. It's bad nutrition for the birds. They poop out the seeds undigested and then it just spreads the buckthorn til pretty soon the birds can't find any nutrition at all!

I think cardinals must love privet because my prvet is full of them all winter, and I don't put out any bird food at all for fear of attracting too many undesireables.

Forsythia bushes are great for the birds once they get established or lilac bushes. Obviously there are no berries on them but i always see them in them fluttering around. Quince bushes, hydrangea bushes are popular spots also. What are the bushes with the soft red berries on them that we have all over the place called? Are they choke cherries? I live in Sandwich, NH and I just put bird feeders out all year round for them.
