the Confederate states would have allied with Germany in both world wars and may have been enough to tip the balance for the Axis powers. a very scary thought,

Ohhhh not good. I am Mexican, so I will have to say this from my point of view (do not fling rocks at me please).
Since we basically "copied" our government from yours (in the Federal Republic issue and most of your Constitution which we adapted to our needs, but is still pretty similar) Mexico would be entirely different but much better. The thing is, a Federation for you guys worked perfectly, you were organized and ready for it, whereas on our case, when we adopted that system the Country wasn't ready for it, and it created problems and chaos.
Yours is a true Federation and ours is a Federation for some things and a Centralized government for others.
You would have probably never won Texas and the rest of the Southern States that were "sold" by Santa Anna, Poinsettias wouldn't be called that but Noche Buenas like we call them and perhaps the war that is ongoing right now wouldn't have been an issue.
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

Great question. I think you think way to much for me this morning. You've gotten some good answers so far. I really think Abraham Lincoln would have completed his presidency, Our National Police force would be the KKK, John F. Kennedy would have been jailed or killed earlier for his believes even though he never would have been president. Martin Luther king, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and other black activists of the 60's would have been hung. Probably publicly and on TV. We would "never" have had black mayors, governors or blacks in any public office. We'd all be eating grits instead of oatmeal. (Sorry just had to put that in)

Well,let's see:
1. All the jokes would be about Northern accents.
2. Everything in other states, besides Virginia, would be named after Robert E. Lee.
3. The Southern flag would be allowed to wave, north of the Mason-Dixon.
4. Richmond would not have been burned down. Therefore, Joan Baez could not have made a hit from,"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down."
5. The Southern way of manners would have traveled up north....now there's a nice thought.
Save your dixie cups....THE SOUTH SHALL RISE AGAIN.

We might still have slavery. But then I'm willing to bet that Kennedy would have freed them. I'm glad it turned out the way it did. It would have been better if less life had been wasted.
