The computer i have now is old and intergrated everything. So i am looking to buy a decent gaming desktop for under 1,000 that i can upgrade later on in a year or two. i used to look at maximum pc every month, but haven't for the last year or so. so i'm not sure if i should get a intel or amd cpu, a ati or nvidea graphics card. or which one's would be best. last time i checked, ati 9800 was the best. ya, been a while. the bulk of what i will be using it for is mmorpg's, mostly ffxi or try out WoW. but i would also like to play guild wars, FEAR or doom. what will offer the best frame rates and most options for upgrading in the future. when these $500 video cards are $200 or something.

If you plan to do the upgrading, I would think that you could build your own pc also. For more information check the links listed below. DIY is the cheapest, and you will get more for your money.

Building your own computer is definitely the way to go. Right now, Intel Core 2 Duo processors are better and cheaper than the AMD alternatives, and the Nvidia 8800 video card is the best on the market, though probably a bit out of your price range. ATI or Nvidia is a personal choice. You need at least 1GB of RAM as well.

Be careful when buying from Newegg or TigerDirect. They can be unreliable.
