You only need to bathe them if they get dirty, but when you do you can do it a number of different ways. You can just set them in the sink and pour the water over him, or you can fill up the bath tub a little and do it that way as well.

Personally when I end up giving mine a bath I'm going to put them in the kitchen sink (the only sink in the house with a flat bottom) and put a little water in there, then rinse them with a cup.

Just remember to keep their head dry, if they get water in their ears they can get an infection. Also make sure to use a small animal shampoo like bunny bath or something similar, human shampoos, and even cat or dog shampoos can be bad for their skin!

Check out www.guinealynx.com for really good info on guinea pig care.

Good luck with the bath (if you haven't already done it :-) and just remember you don't have to bathe them often unless they're long haired!

I've had my guinea pig over a year and have only bathed him twice!! If your guinea pig is a long-haired guinea pig it'd be a good idea to bathe him more frequently, but like mine, if it's a short haired it really only needs to be bathed if there's a rank odor coming from his fur.

As far as "how" to bathe him- this is how I do it- I run the water in the sink, luke-warm and as I hold him I put him under the faucet; making sure his face, nose, and ears are clear of the water. The other way you suggested sounds fine as well, it's just a matter of preference, but I feel safer knowing he's in my hands and not submerged in water.

Good Luck!!

The easiest way is to fill the tub up with enought water to go to his stomache. The use your hands to scoop water over his body.
Rub the small animal shampoo into his fur then put him back into the tub and scoop more water over him while rubbing him to rinse it off...
Then take him out and wrap him in a towel and rub him with the towel untill he is dry..NVER USE A HAIR DRYER TO DRY A SMALL ANIMAL!!

Just make sure you rinse all the shampoo out and don't pu thim back into the cage untill he is completely dry...
And YES small animals do need baths everonce in a while, just like cats do (contrary to popular belief) they do clean themselves, but they can't get very clean using their tounge...Just be careful and he'll be fine...

GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helps...

No. If you keep his cage clean, he will keep himself clean, and there will be no reason to bathe him.
