Some do, some don't. It's mostly a stereotype.

Twice, the French was rescued by theAmericans. In the Second World War the Germans walked through France as if it was a public park. The French offered no resistance at all.
Even when the Americans ( me included ) fought day by day - - mile by mile to take back France from the Germans, where were the French. German weapons were everywhere. Did the French grab up the weapons and fight for their own land ? No way, you can get killed fighting the Germans.
They figured it's better to let the Americans do the fighting and dieing. This stays in their heads. When you know that you owe so much to someone, you get to dislike that person.
In this case, it's a whole nation that owes their entire country and freedom to America. They feel insignificant, unimportant, indebted, so they dislike the very ones who they owe it to.

The French dislike us because for a century and a half they were the leading culture. You dressed in the fashions of Paris, drank french wine, and ate french food. Then, by the fifties, the USA became the new fashion center of the world. Now, Coke is second only to Jesus as the most recognized name in the world. Jeans are a staple of everyones wardrobe the world over. Even countries that don't like us listen to our music and watch our movies and tv shows.

I can't say that the French dislike the Americans, but they don't love the Americans. It's a sort of mixed answer. The French like Americans who treat them nicely. If you speak to a French person civily and try to speak their language they appreciate it and will be very nice to you. If you just come at them expecting them to speak English and you just start talking and don't ask them if they speak English or you don't even try to speak a little French they will definetly give you a lot of attitude. I have been to France many times and have never ever had a problem.

A frenchman defines success on being able to cook a gourmet meal with 329 ingredients and not make anyone fat.
Americans define success by being able to eat a 5 pound hamburger with buns the size of frisbees, and getting a free t-shirt to prove it.
A frenchman defines success by mastering their language, pronunciation, and preserving their language and culture. American culture defines speaking, reading, and writing well as being too "uptight".
A frenchman defines success by lobbying for a 35 hour work week and 8 weeks' vacation. Americans spend more than that at work just talking about the football game or American Idol episode at the water cooler.
France's main exports are luxury goods - the best apparel, handbags, perfumes, wine, luxury yachts, etc. Things that are within reach only to the uppercrust snobs. Americas main exports are Microsoft and Walmart - stuff that appeals to the masses.

It is just a stereotype.........In Normandy every June the people wave the American Flags, as well as Canadian flags to show their gratitude for the liberation from the Germans ..It is a sad solemn occasion with churches full and many Guests from Canada the USA the Britain..............Then there is a party after respect has been shown to the brave men who died so far from home..............just visit the war graves in Normandy.............I think it is the American McDonald's culture, the ignorance, evangelicalism, cultural hegemony etc that is disliked.but that is true of all the world not just the French.

I know and have met a lot of people from France. For openers, they think they are better than everyone on earth. Secondly, since I have also met/know people from over 30 nations, the entire world dislikes the French while the overwhelming number love Americans (governments aside). The French don't scream racial and cultural supremacy, they just act it and you better believe, you are on the outside. I would rather deal with any other group of people on earth.

Because they view us as having as mantle of democracy meaning we are the bearers of it but we do not truly seek democracy for ourselves are want it for others. I am a capitalist but our Runaway capitalism is returning to it's mercantilistic roots. We seem to be forming an aristocrocy without the titles but with every bit of the power, prestige and ability to put out propaganda that any monarchy ever had.
Basically we are failing our Revolution and our founding fathers and that is the real why they truly hate us.

Everyone hates Americans. Even allies of America hate Americans. It's all about dipolmacy. You don't have to like anyone, just be cordial. I love being American.

The French, generally speaking, don't seem to like anyone who has ever dragged their *** out of trouble, or who has invaded them. So they mostly look to Arabic countries for people with whom to associate. Only my opinion.
