Iran is what used to be known as Persia.
We have been giving the Persians bad press since before the time of Alexander the Great.
For example, we learn about the Greeko-persian wars from the Greek side. In school my text book had a picture of a strong handsom greek warrior (painted by the greeks) and a week ugly persian (painted by the greeks).
