I've been listening to their songs, and they keep talking about surfing awesome waves. But did they really know what they were talking about?

Yeah, from what I've heard, only one of them truly surfed. And I too have heard of that story about Brian Wilson being deathly afraid of the water. Funny thing is, their music is actually in tune with what some of surfing's vibe is. This was in an issue of The Surfer's Path, issue 52.

And that's a bad stereotype that all Californians surf. Yeah, we all surf to school and work. I guess everyone in Texas rides bulls to work? Or everyone in Tenessee drives in NASCAR to buy groceries? And everyone in NYC plays Basketball.

The actual surfers including myself are a minority out here. You're more likely to find snowboarders and skiers in California than Surfers. Also, only a small portion of California is actually what you see on TV. There's desert, mountains, farms, etc. It's not just Malibu, San Francisco, and Hollywood.

1. Black's south of the stairs, high swell out of the canyon, watch out for naked people, wind can stand them up when it's right out of the east, worth the hike down 2. Windnsea, especially north; shore break that comes up out of nowhere and can drop you on the rocks just as quick, awesome when conditions are right, broke a leg there in the '86 El Nino, lost three boards that day 3. That secret southern spot (hint: the sunken sub sets up a reef break), sweet... 4. Sunset Cliffs, almost a non-stop reef break in some places, watch out for the rocks Lots of other spots in SD, a couple I'll never tell about but most of the spots like Swami's, Trestles, 'nado north and south and so on are just getting too crowded and the crowd these days seem to have forgotten that an day on the ocean with friends is a big part of surfing. It's not a competition for the world championship, share the break... And don't even get me started on the parking nazis, especially in Del Mar

dennis wilson was the only member who surfed...matter o' fact...brian wilson was deathly afreaid of the ocean...which brings up a funny story:

back in 75...brian reunited with beach boys for the first time since since nervous breakdown...there was a tv special where dan ackroyd and john belushi are playin' cops who force brian to get in the ocean and try to surf!...brian must have been on serious meds that day cuz he played along with the joke...
