There's lots of violence, and swearing.
Also the plot is a bit convoluted for an 8 year old to understand.

As a kid myself in the 70s, my parents would watch 'The Godfather' movies and being pre-teen, I found them very very boring as most kids do. Maybe if they have to be in the room while you're watching you should give them a puzzle or something to distract them OR you can count on them going to sleep during the movie. But remember, though boring, they will have lifelong lasting images they see in the movie. I never fully enjoyed GF movies until I was much older, in my 20s. :-)

I distract my daughter when anything too racy comes on
like look at the dog but I am talking Simpson's racy.
as for godfather there is some adult language and a lot of killing. word of advice just have the kids step out of the room or close there eyes any time you see a gun or Moe Green.

Well in the first one there is a scene where something 'inappropriate' is going on near the beginning, but for all three movies there is really just violence and swearing.

i watched it at 14 and was kinda confused, so i'd say no, plus TONS of violence and swearing, too much for a kid.
