What happened to the "mom" "Wife" of the Cartwright family???

Each of Ben's sons had been borne by a different
wife, none of whom was still alive at the beginning of the series. So they were actually all half brothers.
And if memory serves one of the mothers may have been Native American (Adam maybe?)
Adam, the oldest of the half brothers, was the most serious and introspective. (And the hottest)
Hoss, the middle son, was a mountain of a man who was as gentle as he was huge, at times niave, and not particularly bright.
Little Joe was the youngest, most impulsive, and most romantic of the Cartwright offspring. (The cutest)
I adored the show, also "Branded", anything that had a western flavour!

Ben Cartwright had 3 different wives, all of whom died from various things. There will be re-runs of Bonanza on TV Land channel today. I watch them all the time.

The show started out with the dad, very young, riding a wagon with small children, all hungry. Begging for food. Mom was killed, but they do not say when or how. As the show went along, the children "jumped" to adult size. At no time did they ever say what happen to mom. Same as Big Valley. The dad was dead before the show started. Same, again, no one said what happen to the Dad, other than dead before the show started.

Yes, I think I watched every episode.....loved it! There was never a mother in the show, though many episodes depicted Ben, the father, remembering her. Ben was a widower, from the beginning episode, who had raised his sons on his own. Though I do believe all 3 sons were half brothers, from different mothers, who were depicted in flashbacks of there demise. It was a great premise, that gave way to many interesting episodes of these young men, learning to comprehend the minds of women, as they had no mother for reference. I think I had a crush on all 3 sons at different times of my childhood. Adams wisdom, Hoss's kind heart, and Little Joes cuteness & fun loving nature. Each portraying a piece of inheritance from their mother's nature. That's why their father, Ben, understood them so well. Each son reminded him of what he had loved most in their mothers.

All 3 boys had different mothers. The dad was widowed 3 times.

She died. And there were different motehrs for each of the sons. The mothers died afte the birth of each son.
Yes, I liked the show earlier on in my life. Do not watch it much any more, although I have seen it on TV recetnly.

I think she died during child birth. Either that or right after child birth. Ben raised the boys mostly on his own. I guess Little Joe was the youngest so it would have been after he was born. You know Hop Sing helped out too.

i luv bonanza each cartwright brother had a different mother and they each died right after they were born
