Does anyone know how to go about copyrighting my website?
I have found the link below for a world wide copyright for websites. However is this all that needs to be done to copyright my site, as $3, to get a time and date stamp for my site doesn't seem like a very professional and more importantly legally binding copyright.

Thanks to any responders.

Technically, when an original work is "fixed in a tangible medium of expression" then it has obtained a copyright protection. Getting a copyright doesn't cost anything-- it is free. So I am not sure what the $3 dollars is for on the website you found. I think the site you found may be a Canadian corporation, and I am not sure what they do up there.

But can I ask what you are trying to accomplish? Assuming you are from the US, you can register your copyright (of your website) with the US Copyright Office if that's what you want, but that is not free. If you want some more information about registering a copyright, you can check out http://www.protectmyart.com/html/copyright_faqs.html for some basic questions about copyrights and registration, or if you like reading you can check out the government's website at http://www.copyright.gov. Hope this helps!

Any creative work in FIXED form is automatically copyrighted in Berne Convention countries. To establish a fixed form, you should burn the coding for your site on a CD (not the re-writable kind) and title it with the date created. Do this again for every substantial revision. This is probably what they do, except now you can save the $3 and get even better protection because you hold the evidence.
