I can understand why you want one, all the other kids have them, right? I don't think you're too young to get one. On the good side, you could ring your parents if you need to stay after school, get lost, miss the bus, or for them to check on you if you're late. As long as you use the phone responsibly and don't run up huge bills. Lastly, there's the emotional blackmail....tell your parents you want to feel safe when you're away from them, and it would be good to know they're only a call away

The one and only reason I can think of is for emergencies. Pay phones are few and far between these days because of the cell phone epidemic. If you were my kid, you probably wouldn't have one except maybe some sort of prepaid one with only a few minutes for emergency use only. Sorry.

Maybe offer a slight compromize. ask for a prepay phone for now rather then get stuck into a contract for a year or 2. Prepaid are a great way to go. Its an easy way for you to reach your parents when your out and about and a great way for them to reach you in case something comes up. I've seen prepaid phones for as cheap as $30 for the phone at $10 for phone time. I doubt a parent could complain about spending too much money on thoes cheap prices.

That depends on your particular situation. I do have a suggestion, tho. Have them buy you one of the pre-paid phones. you buy a card of several minutes each month.. some every other month.. that will "break you in" on having one and the responsibility associated with owning one. If you have an allowance that will pay for the cards.. you just may have a good case... promise to (and stick) use it only on occasssion.. or in an emergency situation.. that would be peace of mind for any parent.. and you can also show them how responsible you can be! Remember, one day you will be asking for a new car..... then you MAY get to borrow the family car ... but only if you can prove yourself responsible! Please be true to your word.. I wish you the best of luck!

Yes i have a reason as i am 12 and i have had 4 phones. Well first of all if you go out much you could say she could call you to check where you are or something. Second you could say you will not call your friends on your telephone (presuming you call your friends) and say you'll pay for the calls. Don't really call them on your cellphone but tell your parents you will. I am evil hahaha

I am in sixth grade as well, have had four cell phones, and I didn't even want them! My mom said I needed one so that we could contact each other during emergencies. I also use it to call my friends...

I can't think of any reason on earth why a 6th grader needs a cell phone. If you want one that bad, get a job and pay for it yourself.

You want a list of reasons why you should have one. I'll give you 1 reason why you shouldn't, and that's running up the minutes on prime time (during the day).

You don't need one because you are in 6th grade. Use your house phone to talk to your friends. Carry change with you and use the pay phone.
