It's usually used when something has been accomplished or someone succeeded somehow; it is more often used online than in person.

For the win is correct. Its an online term used to either describe something positive, as in "good job" or "way to go". Or also frequently used sarcastically, as in "taxes ftw", although more frequently ftl (for the lose) is used in those cases.

I like you. I had NO idea what it meant at all when I started dating my current boyfriend...

It was so hard to ask him what it meant...he got all...you know..."you really don't know what it means..." thing...

But it does mean for the win. kinda stupid, but hey. now you know
