will it rev fast. Not like a 2 ton truck engine. Thinking about putting it in my 70 chevy short bed.

If you have a Mercury Model - GM 454, you will find the engine will perform a lot differently in a vehicle. It will have a different cam more suited for lower RPM torque. May want to change the cam to suite you driving needs.

Well, other than some slight differences, it is essentially the same engine...it'll take some work, but it will work. Just remember, no 454 was designed to do 7 grand, so 5500 to 6000 rpm will be the design red line.

a big block, which is what that engine is classified as, is pretty much too large to rev too high. it probably has a red line of about 5500 to 6000 rpm, but in good condition, and set up properly, it should give you a high torque/horse power capability. it should do just fine in that little truck.

Not knowing your exact circumstance I would say you should get a redline in the area of 5500 RPM.

Make sure the engine your replacing and the new one have the same rotation.

Boats often use counterclockwise rotation .

Make sure it rotates inthe right direction before you put it in.
