Cross multiply - multiply both sides by x, then multiply both sides by x+4
You DO mean
-12/x = -28/(x+4) don't you?
Or do you mean
-12 / x = (-28/x) + 4
In the first instance
-12(x+4) = -28x
-12x - 48 = -28x
28x - 12x - 48 = 0
16x = 48
x = 48/16
x = 3
In the second case
-12 / x = (-28/x) + 4
-12/x = (-28/x) + (4x/x)
-12 = -28 + 4x
4x = 28-12
x = 16/4
x = 4

-12/x = (-28/x) + 4
Multiply all by x
-12 = -28 + 4x
4x = 16
x = 4

-12/x = -28/x+4
(28/x)-(12/x)=4
16/x=4
4x=16
x=16/4
x=4

-12/x = -28/x+4
(-12x -48)/(x^2 + 4x) = (-28x)/(x^2 + 4x)
(-12x -48) = -28x
-48 = -16x
-48/-16 = 3
x = 3
