What are the advantages of the expansion of tourism?

I live in Florida. Most places down here depend on tourism to make enough money for the year. after the hurricanes, everyone was hurtin money-wise because not enough of the northerners came down. an expansion of tourism would help the local economy make enough money during the season to still have money during the off season. this trickles down to those businesses that don't directly depend on tourists, but still need that influx of cash to make it through the summer.
