I loved Roald Dahl's books. He wrote Charlie and the Great Chocolate Factory. Shel Silverstein's poetry are a must-read for juveniles. The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew fulfilled my hankering for mystery until I found Sherlock Holmes. And Beverly Clearly was a favorite of mine, most notably her Ramona books. A little later, I found Little Women (loved that) and L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables (loved that even more, still love it now).
My favorite of them all? L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. How can I resist the charms of a Canadian (gasp) heroine (swoon)?
MEL T - I'm a high schooler, and man but I looove Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind, so kudos to you for mentioning it! There, I gave you a thumbs-up just for that.
Cheers!

When I was in the first grade I loved reading Hank the Cowdog series. It was one of my favorite series of all time. As I got older I liked anything by Beverly Clearly, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Judy Bloom, and finally when I was twelve I loved Ann M Martin and I would say that my last childhood book favorite was Jane Eyre since I read it at 13.

I loved SE Hinton when I was around 5th grade.
In junior high my favorite book was Ordinary People.
In highschool it was "Gone with the Wind".
As an adult, for young adult readers I love "King Dork" and "Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time". Also, "the Perks of Being a Wallflower" is wonderful on audio.

When I was the pre-reading age, I loved Good Night, Moon. I read (or was read that) every night, along with another book.
When I was of reading age, my favorite author was Beverly Clearly; I also really liked The Boxcar Children series.

What age group? This is a very broad question. Are you looking for a book for someone in particular?
