How does one define "good" as opposed to evil lets say ...

"good" is a horribly ambiguous word. If you are looking for the opposite of "evil" then I would suggest. "moral", "righteous" or "honorable."

Of course, you need the antithesis to define something, as in there is no darkness if you don't have light, the same way you can't have evil if you don't have "virtue"

you answered your own question, it opposes evil...
that is, if you'll take it in general context.
but we use the word good, in many variants
and sometiimes we dont mean well after all.
"it's good for him to die coz i hate him"
it meant to be synonymous to "right" but isnt exactly
the oppositve of evil, the use of good is entirely spiteful.

This is very much a question of relativity. What is good for you, can be bad for me.But goodness is above all, sharing, loving and accepting others despite their flaws.

Its a concept not set in stone. What I think is "good" you think is bad. That's why we have arguments in life everyone has different perceptions
