I think most people WANT to believe in God or a higher power. They do because it's comforting. Although I'm aware of this 'convenience' for humans to believe in a higher power, I still believe in one. I cannot explain why the universe is here in the first place, or what happened before the 'Big Bang', or why it happened. I simply believe that something had to be there, or create the conditions for it to occur in the first place.

Now, people who get involved in the mundane issues, such as 'who is our savior?', etc, need to have their brains examined. No one, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, or other, knows much more than the others about who the 'correct' prophet is or whatever. Don't believe people who say they know which religion is the correct one. No one on our planet has actually died and come back to tell us what happens when you die. Or if Jesus, or Mohammad, or whomever is the right 'messenger' to us here on Earth. I think the vast majority of people simply believe the religion that they've been surrounded by for most of their lives, and it's sad. Most don't have the desire or gumption, to really explore all the options. Believe me, if the average Muslim in Saudi Arabia was born in N. America, Europe, or South America, they would be Christian instead of Muslim. The same goes for Christians if they were born in Iraq, or Saudi Arabia, or Egypt, etc. Most simply follow the beliefs that those around them follow.

There is an old saying from World War 1:

"There are no atheists in the trenches."

When the chips are really down, when you really need HELP, you will find that you will reach out to something bigger and more powerful than you for help.

Many times you'll get an answer. You will get the strength and the courage you need. You will "get over" whatever has been hurting. You will find the willpower you thought you'd lost. You will find the peace you are seeking.

Maybe because we don't understand it, we call it "God". Or maybe, we have such a strong bent toward egocentrism, that our ego controls the way we think about God.

What I am talking about above is experiencing God. So, what is actually driving your consciousness, day to day? The chatterbox ego inside you?

Are you open to experiences that cannot be "explained", like the pure joyous feeling of sunlight pouring through your skin as it shines into you and warms your bones.

when you experience nature directly, or with other parts of your mind, without the ego chatterbox, you are closer to the experience of God.

try it out, let me know what happens. Experiment.
Good Luck.

To claim that GOD with out a doubt exist. Is just as foolish as claiming that you know for a fact that GOD does not exist. There is no real proof to support either side of the argument.

So really what it all boils donw to is people sould believe what they need to to get through life. If believing that an all-powerful being in the universe looking out for you is what helps you sleep at night then, cool. If you dont beleive that then, cool. Although i must admitt that the later is more comforting.

Yes, I believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ. I have seen and felt Him work in my life as well as others. I'm not particularly a religious person at all, but I am very spiritual. I have been at deaths door, they even called the morgue to get ready for me, God brought me back obviously because I am not finished here yet. I went from being a very dark, angry person to having light and love in my life. We all have a purpose.....I didn't use to believe that, but I certainly do now.

i do believe in a higher power. my mom and sister are both devote Christians. and my mom tries to pressure me into the religion too. i was once as devote as them. i actually fought to go the church. but eventually, i felt out of of place, and i could find loop holes in the sermon. i wasnt TRYING to, but i saw parts of what people said were just bull. ive always believed in a greater power, and ive always felt most serene in nature. who knws? maybe im a born Wiccan. im just happy to feel theres a gretaer power. but most people dont believe in "god" just because they had an expirience. when a parent raises a child in church, and tells them "this is what is right" then the child will tend to belive it. sometime the child "strays" from the religion. but a lot of the time, they believe what they do because they were taught that "god" made them, loves them, and holds them up when they are sad. also, people tend to believe in "god" or other higher powers because, well, frankly.. death is scary! being a christian or muslim gives you place to go when you pass on. or they could believe because it gives them a sense of purpose. it makes them feel not so alone, and if they think a "heavenly father" is smiling down upon them, they feel better about themselves. i could go on more and more about this, but i better jet.

First of all, believing in God is a choice. We are not forced. I have felt a "drawing to" God all my life. I have experienced his deep love for me and I just "know in my knower that I know" that He lives and He lives forever. And my deepest sympathy goes out to anyone who just won't believe. I often wonder what an atheist feels right at the time of death when they know that they have not made the greatest decision of their life........to accept Christ and they are going to enter that great eternity without Him.

No. I have never encountered any credible evidence to support any theory of god. (Neither has anyone else.) Since neither the existence nor non-existence of god is demonstrable, it follows that no such theory can be of any use in the real world.
