I lived most of my life watching cartoons and when I got older I got into anime, but ever since I got digital cable and watched some old shows on Boomerang and Nicktoons TV, I've started to like cartoons again. I don't know which one to pick!

you don't have to pick. i know lots of people who watch both. but if you really just want to watch one:
cartoon- doesn't deal with a big disaster. it mostly deals with family problems or misunderstandings. they are made to make you laugh.
anime- anime does deal with big crisis. mostly it has a chosen person and she/he must save thew world alone. anime can also mke you laugh.

Anime, of course. Stupid, ignorant people think all anime is for kids because of pokemon and yugioh and that crap, but most anime that i've seen and heard of is for teens and older. Go for anime, they have very good plot lines, and the humor is funny, unlike classic american cartoons. However, DO NOT watch the english dub first because they almost always suck! however, there ARE some good American cartoons that are funny and more mature such as Family Guy and the Simpsons. I'd choose anime if I were you and not choose stupid cartoons for little kids. However, watch family guy and the simpons too! here are some good anime i recomend:
AIR (Japanese only, go onh youtube and you'll be able to find it subbed. you'll know it's the right series when you see huge eyes and big hair lol! but it's really good! and sad)
Ghost Hunt ~ The manga is in America but the Anime is not, again, go on youtube to find it subbed.
Fullmetal Alchemist ~ Both manga and anime are in English, and it's pretty well known. try it, it's REALLY good!
DN Angel ~ Pretty funny, try it. both manga and anime are in English
Inuyasha ~ I no longer like this series, the acting is horrible in the english version, one of the main characters is a skank, and it's just plain wierd and sort of childish, with the same plot over and over again. however, there is a lot of violence and partial nudity, mild language. The manga is more mature, mostly for the gore. Both manga and anime are in english. Warning: THIS SERIE'S MANGA NEVER ENDS, AND THE ANIME ENDS WITHOUT AN ENDING!!!! in case you didn't know.

also, in case you don't know what manga is, they're japanese comics. many anime have manga behind them

Full Metal Alchemist has been my favorite of all time. Watch one or two episodes of it, and I guarantee you'll be hooked. Don't read anything about it online. It's in the reruns now, and certain plots may be given away. It's shown 4 nigts a week, twice a night. I watch Inuyasha when I get a chance. There's a lot of characters, and it hard to follow sometimes, but it's entertaining. Ereeka, or something like that come on the weekends, that I like to watch then I can catch it. There's a couple more on the weekends only that are good.

Who says you can't have both? If you want something light and funny, watch a cartoon. If you want something nice and deep, watch anime. It all depends on what you want at the moment. Cartoons and Anime are a nice mix just as long as you don't confuse them with each other.

If you like simpler plots, go for cartoons. Also, cartoons are less controversial.
Anime is a lot more complicated, more engaging and more addicting. Animes usually have very controversial plots. If you are not the type who can accept that even heroes die or that even villains have feelings or that Cinderella doesn't always get her Prince Charming, then anime is not for you.

I'd choose anime. In my opinion, it's better. More mature than cartoons. But if you like both then watch both.

watch an equal amount of both because cartoons are comical and really funny, especially fairly odd parents with cosmo, and spongebob squarepants, while anime are interesting and cool like naruto. Watch both equally.

Otakus(anime lovers) unite. ha ha. ok, so Inuyasha is good-tv 14. Naruto-tv pg. If your willing to by anime, Fruits basket is a romantic fantasy type anime.

I prefer watching cartoons, because they have simple plots and they arent prolonged as much as anime.

Instead of picking one over the other why not have both in moderation such as watching your favorite shows instead of concentrating on one. That way you can enjoy both.
