is it possible to create an external hard drive from the normal one found in a Desktop computer?.....

I want to take another hard drive from another computer and use it as an external one on another PC. i need the hard drive to be portable cos' i want to take it across continents. i dont want to buy an external one cos im not going to use it again.

UPDATE: just to update my post, you can use any harddrive from any other computer that is compatible with yours absolutely fine. If its an internal harddrive you will have to put it into the computer case, if its an external drive you can plug it in with the usb cable or parrell cable. Internal drives do not have the option to plug in outside of the case as there is no provision for cabling other than the data cable/power cables to the mainboard. hope this will be of help to you and clarify things.


You cannot use the internal harddrive as an external one. IN theory you can just have a very long data cable and leave the base unit open and have it hanging out of the case then it becomes an external lol

We need some more info on your issue to suggest a proper answer that will rectify your problem. Are you just lookin for an external hard drive?

It is if you have a drive controller. You can buy them at any reputable computer store.

yes it is possible . i think the easiest way to do it is run a extension cable from one of the inside ports to the out side of your computer [ hope that helps]
