Sorry if my last question confused anyone! Demand for oil overall drives up income for the terrorists countries even if we buy from Mexico and Norway. That's just simple suppy/demand principle. I agree that big business and the Bush government aren't going to help, but can grass-roots people like me and you just be really careful with our gasoline use, and start using the better techonogy cars? Studies show that with just a few points more of national mpg average, we would only need domestic supply of oil. Instead of building their countries with industry, higher education, peaceful production of goods and services, the islam countries just buy billions of dollars of military hardware and terrorist training and then blow up civilization like school buses and hospitals, and of course 911. And we are just GIVING them the money for this every time we fill up at the gas pump, frequently using trucks and SUV's to drive back and forth from office jobs! Can we fix this by grass-roots?

any effort will lower our consumption but realize that the world uses 80,000,000 Barrels (320,000,000 gallons) a day of oil and we use 20,000,000 barrels of that. we need to grow our own energy, unfortunately corn will never feed our energy hunger, unless we are prepared to plant 50% of the US landmass in corn dedicated to fuel production. The only high cellulose producing plants that we can grow throughout this country are trees and hemp. Even that is skewed too. the amount of cellulose you can get from four acres of 20 yo trees is equal to how much cellulose hemp can produce on one acre over that same 20 years. If we had used hemp from 1937 to date for energy, then mans' contribution to global warming would be very close to zero. we may not have even had "global warming" in our vocabulary.
Being energy independent would take a serious bite out of middle east oil income and terrorist funding.

No. while conservation will help in the sort term a long term alternative to oil must be found or you will never get out of funding the Islamic terrorists.

Blaming companies will achieve? What I see that it has achieved so far is a rise in gas prices [because the Dems took away their subsides]
