food, clothing, shelter, water, oxygen and human touch. Did you know that babies who get no human contact will eventually die? Studies have shown that touch is necessary for the survival of babies. I think adults need this, too.

Most of these are very good answers, except the God one. One does not need to worship a God to survive. To put them in order it would be water, food, clothing, shelter(which are very basic human needs or lower level needs) then comes safety, love, esteem or self-esteem followed by the all important(not many reach this level because of FEAR) self-actualization. I would suggest reading Maslow's book Motivation and Personality if you are truly curious as to the reasoning for these need gratifications
