i'm a 17 yer old smoker i've been doing it since i was almot 14. now i wish when my mom found out i smoked she would have done something instead of it being ok with her then maybe i woudn't be spending 16+ dollars a wek on cigarettes. although i'm afraid to say even if it's not okay with you he will do it anyway probably but definately don't let him do it in front of you and let him know it's not ok with you for him to do it at all. Good luck and God bless and if you smoke try to quit seeing you do it will only make you a hipocrite in his eyes
edit
one more thing let him smoke one in front of you but make him blow the smoke into a piece of tiolet paper or tissue or something all the tar and stuff will leave a dark brown mark on if you blow almost a whole cigarett in the same spot it will be almost black it is very disgusting and let him know that that sii jsut what is left after it leaves his lungs that is exactly what they look like after jsut one ciggarette.

Tell him how much you love him and that you'll support whatever decisions he makes in life, but that in order to make clear, concise and appropriate decisions he needs to be well informed as to the consequences. Ask him if he is aware of the long term effects of smoking? Don't lecture. You might want to point out that girls may not want to kiss someone whose breath smells like the bottom of an ashtray. Also, it's important to set rules (assuming he's still living in your house). No smoking in the house or in front of the house. No smoking in your car (especially after he starts driving). Most importantly separate the behavior from the person and react to only what effects YOU! This may not get him to quit smoking, but it shows you care and are respectful of his decisions - even bad ones.

Well...first thing...DO NOT MAKE HIM SMOKE A WHOLE PACK IN ONE SITTING....That has to be the DUMBEST punishment for smoking!!! Not all people get sick from chain smoking like that. Especially if they have been smoking for a little while. Do u know how LONG he's been smoking??? So, uh...that type of punishment MAY backfire on you...BIG TIME. It could make the problem worse.
Next question.....DO YOU SMOKE? Your children are twice as likely to smoke if you do.....and then I am sorry to say...Not a whole lot you can do. You can nag him all you want...and he will only say..WELL YOU DO IT. So good luck with this one.

i started smoking when i was 15
and while i know the whole "information is power" thing is respectable and logical, this isnt gonna get the kid to stop smoking. When i smoked it was because i really didnt care at all about my future, so i would say the whole smoking an entire pack back to back would be the best way to go about it. If you cant get him to learn mentally, physically will do the trick.
But definetly confront the subject because he WILL keep smoking probably.

My parents always used the, if you want one, ask me, thing. It is MUCH more affective than punishing and making everything the forbidden fruit, which is a horrid parenting method and causes teenagers to find things else where, often places that are unsafe. Tell your son, don't do it again, and if you want one, ask me, im not going to let you have it all the time, but if you want to try them, just ask me. But if I catch you smoking again, without my permission, you are grounded.

It worked for me, and I have no desire at all to smoke. The only time I wanted one is when my parent's didn't let me have them.

do you smoke?? if you do there's not much you can do because then you are looked at as a hypocrite and the most you can do is put stipulations on his smoking ( like only able to smoke out side or in the living room: to protect you and your house from fire dangers) if you don't then i would ground him and then take him to the hospital and see if you can show him some people who are dieing from smoking

Take him on a field trip to a hospital where they treat lung cancer, throat cancer, emphysema etc.......
Just so he can see the true "big picture" the one not candy coated by the tobacco companies. Show him how "cool" he will be! Show him where this behavior could lead him in the future. Educate him with discipline and tough love!
Then you may decide together what consequence fits best for this mistake. Good luck!
P.S. You could make him eat the whole pack like my dad tried to make me do?
P.P.S. It didn't work for me but it might work for him!

I am 26 and have been smoking since I was 13. Nothing could have stopped me at the time because I had older friends that smoked. Remember if she smokes, she pokes.

When my husband was 12 his dad caught him smoking and he made him smoke a whole pack at one sitting and he got sick. He didn't touch another one for years after that.

Sit him down with you and buy 20 packs of cancer sticks and make him smoke them all. If he is forced to smoke 20 packs in front of you it will make him sick and he'll never smoke again.
