The EU has given its support. The UK doesn't need the USA. The USA can only make matters worse.
It should be made clear to the Iranian Government, that the 5 Iranians in Irbil were captured by the US. A barter is not on the cards.
It is high time that the UK government tells the US government where to go.

OK, I don't live in the UK, I don't have a vote in the UK, but I am appalled at the Kowtowing of the British Government towards the Government of the USA..
So Baby Bush, you think you can free the 15 UK soldiers. Do it! Otherwise let us Europeans sort out the problem.

Dr_Metha. You're wrong. If the EU stuck together and the UK was fully committed to the EU, then you would have to watch this space.
If you want to go back to historay the US made a handsome profit out of arms sales to Germany before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. The US was quite prepared to let the UK, and the whole of Europe go under.

So sorry, but it obviously has become that low.
Sad.
Would not like to be in need of support from Bush.
That's about as low as it gets.

You'll get different opinions here but they will all be focused on Brits and Yanks slagging each other off, so I'll give you my humble opinion for what it's worth. I'm with CJ on this one, even though I am a Brit, who both resides in Britain and who votes.

If I was in Blair's shoes, I wouldn't ask for Bush's support either, why should we, its our problem, although we should be proud of our relationship with America. First things first though, I would charge the new Iraqi government for the use of our soldiers, and if they didn't pay, then I'd pull out, regardless of what Bush wanted. I realise that would make us look like mercenaries, but that's what War is all about, money.

Secondly I wouldn't ask the EU for support either because there a waste of space, I would place a battle group WITHIN Iraqi waters, and tell the little fuc*ing upstart to release our troops, failing that surgical strikes on Iranian electricity, water supplies would all follow..

I'd go on, but I'll get enough thumbs down from all those liberal whingers out there who think we should sit with the French and beg the little shi* for our troops back

Describe support ? Taking it to the UN ? That sure works! SO it is a bad thing that the U.S. supports great Britain ? The U.S. will do more than write a sanction to a country that doesn't care. All countries all over the world should be on the side of Great Britain. Strength in numbers, including the Arab countries is the only way to stop this violent country from getting stronger. How many days is too many for holding these soldiers illegally ? When is enough enough on allowing terrorism to control your life ?

I heard Bush's comments on the radio, Sunday night, and all I could do is groan. Great, Mr. Cowboy is wading in. He was talking threats when what's needed is diplomacy. The Brits are keeping quiet and I'm sure they're going the diplomatic route. Blair probably wishes Bush would just shut up. If Bush wanted to be supportive, he could have kept it simple and said that the American people were behind the Brits and would help in any way they requested. That would've been much better than making his usual ignorant noises.

The EU gave their support....LOL what are they going to do hurl some more worhtless UN resolutions at the Iranians or better yet send over a Division of Frenchmen to free the hostages....LOL Iran is shaking in their boots over that.

The forces of the EU could be overun in a few days by 2 divisions of well armed US Boy Scouts.

To be perfectly honest with you, we don't want to get involved in your squabbles with the Iranians. It's not our problem. You're under the impression that the U.S. wants to intervene, and we don't. If Bush promised support, I'm sure Blair appreciates it, even if the UK people do not.

As for me, let the Brits slug this one out.

right now, those hostages are sitting there wondering if they will ever see their family and friends again or if they will live to see another day. do you really think they care WHO is trying to rescue them??

so funny, if we americans ignored the situation and refused to get involved, you'd criticize us then too.
